Eyecare

Eye care is an essential part of any healthy lifestyle. Regular exercise, eating a balanced diet, watching your weight and making sure you have your eyes checked regularly doesn’t just keep your vision in tip-top condition, but these measures can also help in the detection of long-term health issues such as diabetes, which can lead to permanent eye damage.

RETINAL IMAGING

The use of our digital fundus camera allows us to photograph the retina at the back of the eye and forms part of your routine eye examination. The process is quick and easy, and for most patients there will be no need to dilate the pupils using eye drops. A photograph of your eye will display any abnormality or disease and provide a permanent record for early detection of any subsequent change.

DYSLEXIA & VISUAL STRESS (COLORIMETRY & COLOURED OVERLAYS)

Some patients may suffer from reading difficulties which can often be associated with dyslexia and visual stress, and they may benefit from an assessment with coloured overlays or lenses. The overlays have been found to be helpful to people with reading difficulties and allow the signal from the eye to the brain to become unscrambled. They may also improve comfort when trying to read and reading ability. We are happy to undertake an assessment for you in the Practice; please mention when booking so we can allow a longer appointment time.

DRY EYE CONDITIONS

Dry eye symptoms occur when there is a problem with the tears that lubricate the surface of the eye.  This can lead to either a reduction in the quantity or quality of the tears the eyes produce, with grittiness and discomfort or watering eyes.  The condition can affect anyone of any age but is more common as we age or in certain health conditions.  There are a range of treatment options to help and as Eric has a specialist post-graduate qualification in Ocular Therapeutics, he can prescribe licensed medications normally only available through the hospital services.
